Private equity and venture capital investments in India registered a 41 per cent growth in January-November 2024 to reach $13.86 billion ($9.82 billion), according to the latest data from LSEG Deals Intelligence.
However, January-November 2024 saw a 2.7 per cent decline in the number of deals from 1,223 to 1,190.
The surge in PE inflows comes at a time when initial public offerings (IPOs) have been worth a record $17.3 billion so far this calendar year. Industry observers said the strong IPO market in India is providing a good exit for private equity investors.
key players
India offers diverse opportunities across sectors ranging from healthcare and technology to consumer services, with rising consumption, digital transformation and infrastructure development services serving as key drivers driving investor interest. The convergence of these factors, along with a resilient IPO market despite the global recession and a dynamic start-up ecosystem, positions India as a major player in the global private equity landscape for the rest of the year, he said.
In the first nine months of this calendar year, PE and VC investments rose 8.9 per cent to $10.9 billion ($7.9 billion).
In the latest July-September 2024 quarter, private equity investments stood at $2.77 billion, up 49 per cent from $1.6 billion in the same quarter last fiscal. However, the latest quarterly reading was lower than the investment value of $3.9 billion in the April-June 2024 quarter.
