UPL recognized as top patent applicant in agro-chemical research

UPL, a global provider of sustainable agriculture solutions, has been recognized as the top Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applicant among Indian Science and Technology (S&T) clusters for agrochemical research. The recognition comes from the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024, which annually ranks the world’s economies based on their innovation capabilities, with a focus on identifying and evaluating key regional science and technology hubs, the company said in a statement. .

The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024 has identified four Indian S&T clusters – Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai – among the top 100 in the world. It assessed 133 economies, highlighting regions with thriving innovative and scientific ecosystems. The index is based on several metrics, including R&D efforts, technology adoption rates, technology output, patents filed, and the economic context of the country. This recognition reflects UPL’s dedication towards innovation, empowering farmers and advancing sustainable agriculture.

India has shown significant improvement in global innovation rankings, rising from 66th in 2013 to 39th in 2024. GII also notes that India, along with the Republic of Moldova and Vietnam, continues to be the better performing country in innovation and is ranked 14th. consecutive years. India’s growth in PCT applications, which has increased by 44.6 percent, underlines the country’s growing leadership in global innovation.
