New Delhi-based SAIL Agri has offered the lowest bid in Bangladesh’s second tender to import 50,000 tonnes of parboiled rice, trade sources said.
At $471.60 a tonne, SAIL’s offer compares with $474 by Aditya Birla, $474.74 by Singapore-based Agro Corp, $474.99 by Pattabhi Agro, which was the lowest bidder in the first tender, and $479.77 by Bagadia Brothers. I was the lowest. Except Agro Corp, all the rest are Indian companies.
first tender
Bangladesh had issued this tender on November 5 and Monday was the last day of bidding. The first tender was closed on 4 November, with Pattabhi Agro being the lowest bidder. Bangladesh has decided to import rice this year as floods are expected to affect production of more than one million tonnes. Dhaka produces 40 million tonnes of rice annually but floods, heavy rains, cyclones or droughts are ruining the production from time to time.
Bangladesh has withdrawn imports to facilitate imports by the government. Dhaka will probably import at least six lakh tonnes of parboiled rice.
Bids for the Bangladesh tender are on cost, insurance and freight basis and include unloading costs as well as shipment costs to Chattogram and Mongla ports. Dhaka on Sunday issued its third tender to import an additional 50,000 tonnes and the last date for bid submission is December 2.
