There was pressure to hand over Delhi’s power companies to Adani Group: Kejriwal

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made sharp allegations in the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday, claiming that during his tenure as CM, he faced immense pressure to hand over Delhi’s power companies to the Adani Group. He also accused the group of selling power at exorbitant rates to several state governments.

“I was told in Gujarat that Adani Group was supplying power at ₹2.83 per unit in 2021. In 2022, this rate increased to ₹8.83 per unit, a four-fold increase in just one year. This happened because there is collusion between the Adani group and the BJP government.

Kejriwal further said, ‘I say with full responsibility that during my tenure as Chief Minister, huge pressure was put on me to transfer the power companies of Delhi to the Adani Group.’

He claimed that Delhiites will have to face serious consequences due to this. “If I had handed over Delhi’s power companies to the Adani Group, electricity would have become so expensive that residents would have been unable to pay bills from their earnings and the government would not have been able to subsidize electricity.”

Kejriwal claimed that perhaps it was because of his refusal that he was targeted and put in jail. “I challenge the BJP to make an announcement before the elections and openly declare that if you ever come to power in the state, you will not hand over the power companies of Delhi to the Adani group.” He further alleged that if BJP ever comes to power in Delhi, they will hand over Delhi’s power companies to Adani Group.
