The Minister of New End Renewable Energy (MNRE) Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday that he was talking with the states to refuse them to signed the power purchase agreements (PPAS) for 40 GW of renewable energy capacity.

“To date, about 40 GW Re Capacity is pending to sign a PPA. Therefore, we are talking to sstates on it. MNRE Secretary, Joint Secretary is following with his counterparts and I am following with Chief Ministers and Ministers. We can add 40 GW to FY26. Many projects are ready here.

Talking to reporters at the inauguration of a module testing lab at the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Joshi insisted that the government is committed to fulfill its vows for 2030.

“Our goal is an established capacity of 500 GW non-Givash fuel by 2030, including 292 GW solar energy. We are working very fast to achieve this. We are regularly interacting with states on these goals. As I said we are also seeing how we can produce more power with less space. We will meet it.”

For example, this test laboratory in Nis is a step in that direction. This leading feature empowers NISE to provide comprehensive testing, calibration and certification services for photovoltaic (PV) modules and technologies.

Joshi said that innovative solutions need to be further integrated to maximize solar energy production capacity from available land resources. For example, many high-growth buildings in the metros have very little space for solar panels. The solutions should be prepared on how to use the best space there.

The minister said that PM Surya Ghar is proceeding “very well”.

He said, “We launched the scheme effectively in June 2024 after the Lok Sabha elections. Currently, we have reached about 1.2 million houses with solar energy installations on the roof, which is commendable. It is a very good plan and MNR is constantly reviewing its progress,” he said.
